Chip Installation

Description of installation process: Open the ECU and desolder two OEM chips and the OEM Pressure Transducer. This is a total of 59 different solder connections. Insert sockets into the locations of the chips and solder them in place. Also insert the VMAP cable connector into the location of the PT. Install the VMAP according to their instructions (here). Insert the new chips into their appropriate sockets observing proper chip orientation and making sure that ALL of the pins are properly inserted in their respective holes before applying pressure to seat the chips. Caution, improperly aligned pins can be easily bent and damaged beyond use. Close up the ECU and reinstall it in the car.

Note: If you are upgrading from an earlier installation of chips from another source examine the sockets for the earlier chips. Some require a scrambler chip for operation. If such a scrambler chip is present in your ECU it must be removed for the MRC chips to operate in your ECU. See the last photo of the group linked here.

Here are some photos of the ECU opening process.

Unless you are quite confident of your abilities with a soldering iron and feel comfortable with the idea of poking around the insides of a $1K computer with a soldering iron it is recommended that you have someone with the requisite skills do the solder work for you. This may be done by a tech in your location or we can do it for you here.

If you request our installation service there are two basic methods available:

Alternative 1. You may pull your ECU, ship it to us, we ship you one of our “spare” ECUs with the mods you ordered already installed and we use your ECU as the base for mods for the next customer. Your down time will likely be the biggest part of a week. No core deposit is required if the installation transfers are done in this manner.

Alternative 2. We can ship your “new” ECU to you. You pull your old ECU, install the “new” one and ship us the old one. Your down time will be the length of time it takes you to swap ECUs. We can do this job in 15 to 20 minutes. It will likely take a first-timer a little longer, perhaps an hour or so. A refundable core deposit of $1K is required for this procedure.

Either way, our fee for installation service, including return ground shipping, is $75. This figure pretty closely reflects our added costs for labor and shipping.
